Okay...The WINDOW IS OPEN!!37 weeks is full term, so anytime between now and May 12th, Nicolas will arrive!
We had our last busy week this week, with a birth class on Monday and Tuesday, a midwife visit on Monday, an eye exam on Tuesday, a massage on Thursday and now family is coming into town for a weekend of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) event in Nampa.
At our appointment with the midwife on Monday we finally got the pamphlet "How will I know if I'm in Labor" to replace the "Signs of Early Labor" one that has been posted on our refrigerator for several months now. And I also did my Group B Strep test and got lots of information packets on newborn tests that we can choose to do or choose not to do. Alex and I have spent lots and lots of hours deciding about "routine" things we are going to be doing with Nicolas, and have decided against many of them because they are unnecessary. That's one of the things I love about using a midwife, is that it is a much more informative process and you have the chance to educate yourself about procedures before they happen. Nothing will happen to Nicolas in the first few days of life that we haven't educated ourselves about and then made a decision about... No nurse will walk in and just stick him with some needle of unknown substance or take him down the hall to the nursery to give him a bottle full of sugar water while they slice open his heel for blood! And DEFINITELY nobody will be strapping him down to a table to cut off any "unnecessary" skin on his poor little penis! UNNECESSARY, UNNECESSARY, UNNECESSARY! No eye ointment, no vitamin K shot, no vaccines...nothing will be going into or coming off our son's body that isn't supposed to be there!
My hope for all the mommies out there is that they will also educate themselves about "routine" procedures that are done to you and the baby. Please, please, please! And if your care provider isn't letting you make decisions based on what you've learned, change doctors!
We are women who were made to have babies and have been birthing for thousands of years without procedures and medicine. Pregnancy is not a sickness! The process of being born isn't a routine procedure. Every women will be different and you deserve to have a care provider who will listen to you and want you to be educated about your options! Listen to your intuition and instincts!

Congrats on the Group B negative, pray for me that mine is negative too! Sounds like everything is going great, you will be fabulous parents! :D
